Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is located on each side of your jaw and plays a crucial role in daily activities like chewing, talking, and yawning. Pain in these joints is common and can result from various causes, including:

  • Clenching or grinding teeth leading to overactivity of the jaw muscles

  • Direct trauma to the jaw or surrounding bones

  • Poor posture or associated neck pain

  • Wear and tear on cartilage, arthritis, or inflammatory diseases

Symptoms of TMJ Disorders

TMJ disorders can be painful and disruptive to daily life. Common symptoms include:

  • Pain in the jaw joints or facial muscles

  • Difficulty opening or closing your mouth

  • Clicking, grinding, or locking of the jaw

  • Trouble chewing, talking, or yawning

  • Associated symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, dizziness, or tinnitus (ear ringing)
