Relieving Pain.
Injection Therapy
Steroid injections are an effective treatment for reducing pain and inflammation in joints and soft tissues, helping to support your rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
How Can Injection Therapy Help?
Joint injections can provide relief for conditions such as:
Osteoarthritis
Bursitis
Tendinopathies
By reducing swelling and inflammation, these injections can improve joint function and mobility, making it easier for you to return to your daily activities.
What to Expect
Initial Assessment
Before proceeding with an injection, you’ll book an assessment with our specialist physiotherapist, Annie Ray.
During the session, Annie will discuss your injury or condition, review your medical history, and determine if a corticosteroid injection is appropriate.
You’ll be guided through a shared decision-making process, ensuring you are fully informed about the procedure, potential risks, and expected outcomes.
The Injection Procedure
If suitable, the injection will be administered using a combination of corticosteroid and local anaesthetic.
The anaesthetic offers near-immediate pain relief, while the steroid typically takes 2–7 days to take full effect.
Post-Injection Care
You may experience mild discomfort around the injection site, which usually subsides within a few days.
A rest period is advised, avoiding strenuous activity for a few days post-injection. Annie will provide specific guidance tailored to your needs.
You’ll work together on a rehabilitation programme to support your recovery and long-term outcomes.
How Long Does It Last?
Steroid injections provide pain relief for approximately 3 months. They are most effective when combined with physiotherapy exercises as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.
