A relaxed and welcoming environment.
Patient Information
Chaperoning
We understand that sometimes you may want to be accompanied during your assessment and treatment and we welcome any support required.
Children, under the age of 16, must be accompanied by an appropriate adult (parent or guardian) to be present throughout the treatment session.
Parents are welcome to bring in younger children during their own appointments if no childcare is available at the appointment time.
Consent
We will ask you to sign a consent form at the start of your treatment but you may be asked to sign additional consent forms for procedures such as acupuncture.
Informed consent is vital and it is good practice for this to be reported in your notes.
We actively encourage an openness between the patient and therapist during assessment and treatment and this will always be treated as confidential information.
What to expect at your appointment
You will be questioned about your problem, how & when it started, how it feels, what causes the pain etc.
It is helpful to have as much information as possible to make a more accurate diagnosis, so please bring any scans or scan/x-ray reports, a list of any medications you take, even if you do not feel they are related to your problem.
You will then be assessed and may be asked to remove items of clothing during the assessment or treatment to allow the therapist to see and feel the problematic area. If you prefer, you are welcome to bring and change into a vest/shorts for this.
After the assessment, your therapist will discuss with you their findings and a diagnosis. This will then lead on to some treatment including advice on how to manage your problem at home prior to the next treatment session.
Do I need to be referred by my doctor?
No.
Self-funding patients can just phone up or book online and make an appointment.
However, if you have any concerns about whether you should be attending please feel free to discuss it with your GP first or call the clinic to speak to your therapist prior to your visit.
Medical insurance companies sometimes require that you see a GP or a consultant prior to starting physiotherapy treatment. Please refer to your medical insurance plan and speak to the company for clarity.
Is there parking available?
Kemptown Clinic:
Unfortunately there is only metered parking on the roads surrounding the Kemptown Clinic. It can also get extremely busy on these roads, so please leave plenty of time before your appointment to find a space. There are normally spaces available along the seafront on Marine Parade.
Hove Clinic - The Space
There is free on-street parking outside of The Space and on the roads surrounding the clinic.
There is 1 flight of stairs up to the clinic room. For patients with poor mobility, we suggest you do not book an appointment at this clinic and book into the Kemptown clinic.
